Its just a good song, dont think its going to influence an american president.The people influence their leaders by telling them that they dont accept their leaders ideas.Stand up stick together and dont always believe what we are told.

Also, I think it's rather disrespectful to MLK to think that his influence was limited to the USA. The fact you elected Obama has no relevence as this song was written nearly 25 years ago!!

Bono has great reason to care about MLK. King was a crusader for his time, dedicating his life to change America. Bono has not only dedicated his life to music but also too making a difference in the world. The fact that MLK died for his cause, his pride, is the reason Bono mentions him in this song.

I disagree with you clwilu94.1st,there is a song about his country problems, called "Sunday Bloody Sunday".It's beautiful, btw. And 2nd, USA do not own the world, so Obama is not gonna fix the world's problems, but only the ones that are of his interest. That's another reason for Bono to care not only about him and his country, but about the whole planet. If everyone just think about theirselves, the world is gonna end up being a big selfish ball.
